Day 67

Wednesday, July 18 -

I helped out with the paper trawl at work this morning. I just had to read all the newspapers (probably about seven of them) and record the stories that were exclusive or had a different angle than the other stories or were otherwise interesting. I noticed that yesterday's breaking news about Obama kissing his wife made it into nearly all the papers.  Reading all the papers was cool because I never read every single major paper on the same day, and it's interesting to see which papers pick up which stories, where they put them and how they headline them. Obviously all the tabloids had super sensationalized, crazy headlines, but they seemed even more ridiculous next to the real papers.

Then the whole Syria explosion thing happened, and things got crazy. First the Defense Minister was dead, and then someone else was dead, but then they were alive, and then possibly injured, and then one person was dead but another was still alive, and then more people were dead. It happened right before the morning show, so we got to lead the show live from London with the correspondent who usually does the Syria stuff (if you watch the video, I'm in the background). It was a challenge because we were trying to confirm everything that kept changing while trying to actually have something to report. But before the correspondent came into the room, I got to be the model and sit in the chair and do the mic check.

The rest of the afternoon was pretty slow. The other intern had to leave early so I finished texting the interview she was working on. It was about English 'world class sparkling wine.' Riveting stuff. It was for this guy in the office who, rumor has it, dated Kate Middleton several years ago. Apparently they went to school together. It is just a rumor, but that would make me one degree of separation away from her, so I choose to believe it.
